Mainz Leuchtet
Four works for the Mainz light festival: the cathedral projection Panta Rhei, the Wimmelbild on the Mainz Store, the interactive floor projection Lux Cubes and Wald bei Nacht at the Rheingoldhalle.
Mainz Leuchtet is a late light festival held every year since 2023 at the end of September, lighting up selected facades in the old town of Mainz, Germany in a play of light, colour and music. The projection content is created by students of Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
Between 2023 and 2025 we contributed to four works for the festival. In 2024 the 2023 edition received the Rhineland-Palatinate Design Award and an ADC Talent Award in bronze across three categories.
Panta Rhei -
Projection on the east choir of Mainz Cathedral
"Everything flows, nothing stands still," wrote Heraclitus. Following that idea, patterns and forms build up on the east choir of Mainz Cathedral and fall apart again. The animations, shapes and colours are meant to convey the sheer variety of life. A few recurring elements give the piece a frame, while the breadth of the visual language stands for constant change, transience and renewal.

Projection on the Mainz Store
A dense, detail-packed picture full of local Mainz motifs, projected onto the Mainz Store at the tourist information — parts of it brought to life through painstaking frame-by-frame animation.

Interactive floor projection in front of the LUX
In front of the LUX pavilion of Mainz University of Applied Sciences, a colourful floor projection responded interactively to the steps of visitors walking across it.

Wald bei Nacht -
Interactive installation at the Rheingoldhalle · 2024
A piece of displaced nature returns to the city, encouraging us to become nocturnal ourselves and to see a familiar habitat in a new and unfamiliar light.
In the south foyer of the Rheingoldhalle, festival visitors could use torches to explore which animals are active in our forests at night.
