Toaster Knuspix9000
A TouchDesigner interface maps the actor's expressions onto the converted appliance in real time — the reactions happen on set, not in post-production.
What if your AI toaster developed a mind of its own? That is the idea behind "Toaster Knuspix9000", a short film by Benjamin Drieschner about AI household appliances that develop a consciousness. We built the interface for the main character in 2025 for his bachelor's thesis.

Implementation
So the toaster could actually perform on set, we developed an interactive interface in TouchDesigner: MediaPipe captures the actor's facial expressions through a camera and maps them onto a display inside the converted appliance in real time.
The reactions therefore happen during the take rather than in post-production. Director and cast can see immediately what the device is doing and play off it directly.
