Maryna Komisarova & Meike Schalk

A light art studio from Mainz

We create projection mapping, interactive installations and audiovisual light art — from the first sketch to the installation on site.

Prism Garden is a light art studio based in Mainz, Germany, founded by Maryna Komisarova and Meike Schalk. We create projection mapping, interactive installations and audiovisual work — from the concept and the animation through to the technical delivery on site.

Both of us studied Time-Based Media at Mainz University of Applied Sciences and have contributed to the projections for the Mainz Leuchtet light festival since 2023. Our work has been shown on Mainz Cathedral, at the Rheingoldhalle and the Kulturei in Mainz, in the historic cellar labyrinth of Oppenheim, at Kesselhaus Wiesbaden and at the Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival in Potsdam.

How we work

Our installations are built in real-time environments such as TouchDesigner and vvvv. That means no finished video is played back: what runs is a system that responds to its surroundings — to movement through motion tracking, to gestures, to sound. This way of working combines creative coding with animation and sound design, and it makes every showing slightly different from the last.

Just as often, though, we work with fully animated content — for instance when a facade is mapped with a fixed programme. What fits is decided by the site and the occasion, not by the technology.

What we offer

From a single facade to a full interactive space — we take on the concept, the content and the technical delivery, and we coordinate early with the technical partners providing the projectors.

  • Projection mapping

Facade and object mapping for festivals, city events and cultural venues. We measure the surface, build the content and adapt the animation to the architecture.

  • Interactive installations

Installations that respond to movement, gesture or sound. Motion tracking and camera-based systems, built to run reliably for a whole evening without supervision.

  • Audiovisual light art and live visuals

Audio-reactive visuals for clubs, stages and events — generated in real time and adjustable live during the night.

  • Floor projection

Interactive floor surfaces for squares, foyers and walkways. Playable, scalable and suitable for audiences of any age.

Recognition and funding

  • Mainz Leuchtet, the late light festival we have contributed to 2023-2025, received the Rhineland-Palatinate Design Award and an ADC Talent Award in bronze across three categories in 2024.
  • Echoes from Beyond was funded by the film and media support programme for emerging talent of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2025.
  • In April 2026, Echoes 2.0 was shown at the 55th Sehsüchte International Student Film Festival at Waschhaus Potsdam.
