Adventshaus Barth
24 windows, 24 days, 24 motifs: from 1 to 24 December 2025, one more window of the historic department store lit up each evening with a new animation.
From 1 to 24 December 2025, the historic department store in Barth, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, turned into an advent calendar made of light. Day by day, one of the 24 designed windows opened to reveal a new motif.
The piece as a whole is a living, detail-packed picture built from Barth's landmark buildings, monuments and artworks — familiar elements of the townscape, reinterpreted with a festive sparkle and a wink. Small, humorous animations bring each scene to life and invite passers-by to come back and look again.
How it was built
The advent calendar was realised as a rear projection onto silk paper carefully fitted to each window. The projectors sit inside the building, the image appears on the glass and is visible from the street. That makes the installation weatherproof and allows a building to be animated for weeks without any equipment in the public space.
The project was commissioned by the private owners of the building and is set to return each year with new projection content.
